"I go by Stan… Stan Halen because my real name sucks."

Workaholics

Just when you thought the Workaholics crew had bro-a-fied every word, phrase or event ever created on God’s green earth, they find a way to take it even further. Enter Stan Halen, the ultimate bro. He’s even more stuck in the college party-life mentality than our three leading men. Worse still, he thinks his “all-time fraternity legend” status will let him get away with murder when the guys decide to rush. Too bad (spoiler) he was never in the fraternity to start.

Of course this won’t stop him or the homies from partying like it’s frat-er-day everyday, but they soon learn that Stan is even too much for them to handle when he starts to go all nutty on everyone with kind of interesting results. Pretty ehhhh episode in a hit or miss season.

Here’s how we broke down the grades.

 Blake

D As the grade reflects this was well below average outing for him. The back and forth between Adam and him about who pooped in the shower was pretty funny, but he just didn’t do much of anything else except help push the anemic plot along. He does foil the evil bro Stan’s plan with reverse psychology but Blake’s usually also good for at least a few one-liners too, which sadly he did not.

Adam

C There was a pretty solid line from him before opening credits about how he almost went Greek. “I was going to be in a frat, till I decided it wasn’t for me, because they told me it wasn’t for me… they made that very clear”. He was the only one that would stick an alcohol soaked tampon in his south mouth (that’s his butt hole) during hazing, so I guess that’s cool? Stan had the best bro-banter lines all-night so Adam was lacking in this department as well, which is where he almost always excels.

Anders

C- He was below average again, as he has been this entire season. His attempt to save their house party with no electricity, due to Blake not paying the bill, by acting out Kindergarten Cop was mildly funny, especially when his lips get clown mouth red from make-out chapping  that I had to chuckle but again. Just more of the same half-ass plot development through predictable antics, noticing a trend?

Stan Halen

B Dude WAS this episode from the minute he came on camera. His obvious Matthew McConaughey on briods (that’s bro steroids) impression was pretty funny at first but did start to wear thin by the 20-minute mark. The hazing bits were entertaining and reminded me of similar experiences… my friends have had. His “Third-World Party” idea was also pretty cool and an easy way to get the ladies topless. Throw in quote of the night honors (see above) and he had the best showing in a lame episode.

“Brociopath”

C- Other than a hilarious high school make-out scene with them all and dates present in a hot tub, our bro-migos were very blasé in this episode. It all felt like pretty uninspired writing and the shitty plots in general are starting make the show boring. Now granted, I’m out of their target demographic of 18-25 year old frat-joke aficionados but the show is just not as good as it used to be. Stan Halen was the only thing saving this episode from a failing grade and it was still pretty close.

Extra Credit

  • Stan, in reference to the third-world party rule about going topless “I suggest you nip out or ship out!”
  • Stan calling people Lego head and peasants
  • The term “all-time fraternity legend status”

Demerits

  • Never thought I’d say this, and hardcore fans will probably call me out, but I’m sick of bro jokes, bros! The well has to have run dry by now, right?
  • Terribly unoriginal plot-line, we’ve seen all these jokes before: Van Wilder, Animal House, Old School, etc, etc
  • Gratuitously long party scene on a handy cam, seems like this is necessary in every other episode now and has become a show cliché
